Trademark & IP

Search, register and defend your brand name and logo, and protect original work with copyright.

What it is

A trademark is a registered right to a brand name, logo or slogan for specific goods or services. Registration helps you stop others from using a confusingly similar mark. Copyright protects original creative work such as writing, software, art and music.

Who needs it

  • Businesses launching a brand, product or app
  • Owners who received an examination report or objection from the Trademark Registry
  • Creators who want a public record of their original work

Documents usually required

  • The brand name or logo exactly as it will be used
  • Applicant's identity and address proof
  • Business registration certificate, if filing as a company or LLP
  • Date of first use, with proof, if the mark is already in use
  • Udyam certificate, if claiming the reduced fee for small businesses

The process

  1. 01Search the Trademark Registry for similar marks
  2. 02Choose the right class of goods or services
  3. 03File the application and receive a filing receipt
  4. 04Examination by the Registry, with a reply if an objection is raised
  5. 05Publication in the Trademark Journal, then registration if no one opposes
